Life Story: Mayumi was born into the Kimura clan, and her parents were incredibly honest about how they expected her to grow up. They wanted her to grow up to help them with the family business, which involved growing fruit and vegetables and selling them; and once she got to the right age, she would go down the path of being a medical-nin. Mayumi’s family were peaceful and gentle people and when she got to the ninja academy, she was a seemingly quiet person who was a diligent student, but not really much of a go-getter, very timid… until someone interrupted her at work.

She was eight years old and out in the fields, gathering up fresh produce when a twelve year old Kohaku Wakahisa observed what she was doing. He told her that her work seemed boring, and when she tried to explain, the same conclusion was made yet again: the Kimura clan members are ‘boring’. So Mayumi told him to show her a more interesting life, which he did. Kohaku got into the habit of taking her away on day trips that involved adventuring around, training, and basically any crazy outdoor activity he could imagine for the two. He began to think of her as a little sister figure, while Mayumi was totally crushing on him and thinking of her as the ‘prince showed her a whole new world’.

But it was through Kohaku that Mayumi’s outlook on life began to change. Instead of being gentle and quiet, she began to be a lot louder, a lot more boisterous, and a whole lot more determined to take control of her own lifestyle instead of having her family decide everything for her. At first, this caused Mayumi to have a bad relationship with her family as they could not see eye to eye – but the Kimura family being one that doesn’t enjoy conflict, they decided to just let Mayumi be. They told her that once she graduates as a genin, she can go through the Kimura clan scrolls and master their ninjutsu.

So Mayumi began to be a lot more energetic and considered the most boyish of the girls in her class, going as far as constantly challenging the other boys to fights, mini contests, etc. Kohaku was her inspiration at first, but as she developed more of her own opinions and ideas, she began to strive more towards the position of Hokage, and so the crush began to fade. As Hokage, she could really take charge of her own destiny, and nobody would get in her way and tell her what to do – or so she believes, anyway. Either way, at the start of the ninja academy, Mayumi was quiet and barely had any opinions, but once she became a genin, she was headstrong, hardworking and full of spirit – though more reckless than ever before.

She got put into a team with Raizo Minami and Shigeru Koizumi, with Tsubasa Toriyama as her sensei. Mayumi really wanted to train so she could beat Kohaku, but unfortunately for her, he’d already set out on a journey of his own. So Mayumi has instead put her focus into training with her team-mates so that she can become the best ninja in the world.

About You

Personality: When people look at Mayumi now, they may not believe that she used to behave just like her mother back in the day. From an early age, she was told exactly how women in the Kimura clan should act. So she used to be quiet, speak only when spoken to, follows instructions without complaint, does not get into fights at all, only use ninjutsu to help look after the plants the Kimura grow, be reserved, be gentle – in short, to follow the concept of the Yamato Nadeshiko. Mayumi used to believe that was how she’d always be, so in her first years at the academy, she was much more gentle and calm. But even back then, she always had this yearning for something more, however she was not to voice such a thought out loud.

So when Kohaku entered her life and gave her the confidence to decide for herself what she wanted to do with her life and how she behaved, it was a complete turn-around. Mayumi on the inside was brought out and it completely swamped the old act that she put up around everyone. And this Mayumi is many things. She amped up her social life and befriended many of her classmates, especially the boys. Mayumi was already used to the outdoors because of working in the Kimura fields to help grow and collect up their produce, so it became easy for her to get muddy and get scrapes, and she loves rough-housing. She’s still gentle with the plants in her family’s gardens and produce fields, but aside from that, she certainly became the ‘wild child’.

Being energetic and full of life comes naturally to Mayumi, who is capable of waking up in the early hours just to explore or do training, and even after that, she has a high spirit for the rest of the day. She’s the only coffee drinker in her family on that note, while the rest of her family stick to their herbal teas. Her body clock has naturally adjusted to this, so she rarely ever sleeps in. Besides, she loves to know everything about everyone, and even better if she’s one of the first to receive the news. In fact, she makes a point out of learning as much as possible about the strongest ninja, just so she can prepare herself to challenge them someday.

Mayumi goes in and out of rivalry phases with others. She has a tendency to select someone, train and train until she can win a fight against them, and move on to the next strongest person on her list. Once she defeats someone, they’re no longer rival material apparently. But there are still many ninja she can’t match up to and that frustrates her. She has a lot of envy over the more noble clans with the rarer and greater kekkei genkais, while her clan’s jutsu could be taught to anyone who sees their scrolls and practises hard enough.

Even though she’s such a live wire, she does have some more down to earth hobbies. Due to her upbringing, she has a lot of knowledge over different plantlife and how to care for them, as well as being an excellent cook. She’s quite domestically capable and while she has no plans towards becoming like her mother, she genuinely enjoys preparing food. Mayumi loves going camping too – she’s an outdoor child and is definitely no pampered princess. She cares more about her ambitions than falling in love and starting a family with whoever she marries, and don’t be surprised if she claims that she’ll only ever date other ‘Kages’ once she becomes Hokage. Yes, ‘once’ – she firmly believes she will be able to make this dream come true, even though she has a lot of competition towards that goal. Even if she doesn’t become Hokage, she certainly wants to become one of the strongest ninja of her generation. She’s definitely far from being a romantic, and while she knows how to be friends with other boys, she hasn’t the faintest idea on how to flirt with them. Whatever, she doesn’t want to worry about it just yet anyway.

What Mayumi also has is a notable sense of leadership and a commanding presence. Appearance wise, she may not stand out, but her personality speaks volumes. When she wants something done, when she has an opinion, anything – those around her will certainly hear of it. She loves to know about the goals and dreams of her peers, and she will get pushy towards them about it, even if it means they become her competition. That just makes things more interesting, even if she won’t always see the other as an actual threat to her own dreams. But she is great at rallying others and looking out for them. Even though she loves putting herself first, she is incredibly loyal to her comrades and likes to help boost their confidence. Besides, she believes a team is as strong as the weakest link, which means there can’t be any weak links.

Unfortunately, Mayumi is as reckless as hell. She’s not a fan of criticism either, and will get into fights very easily. It doesn’t matter who the other person is, if she wants to fight them or get into an argument with them, she will. If someone rubs her the wrong way somehow, they will know of it. Her intelligence isn’t particularly exceptional either, so valid arguments aren’t necessarily her strong point. It’s very common for her to get into shouting matches, or wind up with cuts, bruises, scrapes and the like, and it worries her parents and closest friends quite a bit. She’s impulsive and can rush decisions often – Mayumi always acts first, thinks later (or never, whoops). Sometimes it works out well for her and brings out moments of utter genius, and other times, failure.

Learned Jutsu [jutsu you learned from the Academy or from other people]: All E-rank ninjutsu from the Academy, such as the Body Replacement/Clone/Transformation Jutsu. She’s also mastered the Leaf Whirlwind and the Dynamic Entry techniques, partially as part of her admiration for Might Guy. Even though her Chakra Element is Earth, she only ever uses it in combination with her Kimura Clan based Ninjutsu.

Kimura Clan ninjutsu: The Kimura Clan have a range of ninjutsu that is special to them, all of which are based around plants. These are a list of techniques that members of the Kimura clan have passed down – though it is to be noted that many of these techniques aren’t learned by all of the clan members. Mayumi’s one of the rare exceptions who wanted to actually learn the offensive techniques in the clan.

- Leaf Shuriken Jutsu: The user summons leaves which are as sharp as metal shuriken, which are then thrown at the opponent individually. After some time, these leaves will disappear.
- Leaf Shuriken Tornado: A step up from the Leaf Shuriken technique, in that the leaves are summoned and then become a tornado that envelops its target/s. After some time, these leaves will disappear.
- The Art of Plant Healing: when plants are sick or have been battered about, this is a jutsu that helps nurse the plant until it is healthy again. This is a jutsu all Kimura clan members learn.
- The Art of Plant Growth: this is a jutsu that the Kimura clan often use on their produce fields so that they have fruit and vegetables to sell all year round. All of the Kimura clan members learn this jutsu, but most don’t use it offensively. In a battle setting where there are many plants, Mayumi can use the jutsu to cover the surrounding area completely in the plants around her. This can extend to just about any plant. While the jutsu carries a lot of potential, it takes a lot of chakra to use it.
- Seed Spray: the Kimura clan are often carrying seeds with them in great multitudes that they have complete control over. This jutsu is used to spray the seeds at whatever target they choose, whether they want to surround the area, or even force the enemy to inhale these seeds. When this jutsu is followed up with the Art of Plant Growth, it can cause a heavy impact – especially since Mayumi’s seeds of choice are for especially thorny plants, plants containing urushiol, deadly nightshade, strychnos nux-vomica, white snakeroot and very rarely, seeds containing cerberin. If the Kimura family weren’t so passive, they’d probably make very effective assassins with their seed selection.

Mayumi's Jutsu

Name: Summoning Jutsu / Kuchiyose no Jutsu

Description: Once Mayumi’s reached Jonin rank, she’s mastered this technique. Her special summon is a gigantic Venus Flytrap, which will prey on just about anything – as long as Mayumi condones it. It has vines which it uses to capture its targets before devouring – that’s if it can’t reach its targets right away after being summoned. While the large plant never ever talks, Mayumi claims she can communicate with it perfectly. The name this particular Venus Flytrap seems to go by is Ansa.

Mayumi’s Fighting Range: She likes short-to-mid range combat best. With her speed and energy, it’s what she’s most comfortable with.

Weapon(s): Mayumi rarely seems to use her weapons, preferring to perfect her leaf and seed based jutsus as her weapon substitutes. However, it is notable that she likes collecting weapons from missions and displaying them at home. And by that, it means she likes taking weapons from her defeated enemies. How lovely.

Clan

Clan: the Kimura clan

Clan History: They started out as their own mini society, which was very peaceful and lived off of the earth. However, many members of the Kimura society have died out during the wars leading up to the creation of Konohagakure. Eventually what was left was this one main family that settled itself within Konohagakure, carrying out the peaceful traditions of the Kimura. This meant the people preferred to be peaceful and spend their days growing fruit and vegetables, which they sell to the villagers to making their living. Many of the Kimura clan members learn medical ninjutsu as part of their preference towards peace. What tends to define a Kimura clan member is their green eyes and freckles, and their rather detached personalities. Mayumi is one of the rare extroverts and actual fighters within the clan. The current head of the family is Taichi Kimura, but Mayumi as the oldest daughter will be the next head of the clan.

Clan Status: Active, with most of its members involved with the family business and medical based ninjutsu

Kekkei Genkai: The family’s techniques are probably better referred to as Hiden. While it’s mostly only Kimura clan members who use plant based ninjutsu, it is possible for others to learn the techniques. See about Mayumi’s ninjutsu to learn what jutsu they can perform.

Looks and Appearance

Body Type/Looks: Mayumi has light brown hair, green eyes, pierced ears and pale skin with freckles. During the summer it’s common for her to get a tan. She does have muscles, but her build isn’t particularly large – much to Shigeru’s dismay she does have more muscle than him. Her legs are her strongest feature as she does a lot of running and jumping and kicking. While she was flat back when she was fourteen, her chest grew a lot more after turning sixteen and it can often give her back pain. Aside from her breasts, Mayumi has a rectangular body type. Don’t ask for her cup size. She will kill you. In terms of her facial features, her face used to be a lot rounder in shape, with her eyes being more rounded, and her nose shape as well, but this seemed to disappear as she got older. Mayumi is cute, but she didn’t take after her mother in terms of beauty. She never really cared about her appearance though, except in regards to how athletic she was compared to her rivals.

Height: When she was 14, her height was around 5’0 (152cm), but at 17-18, she’s starting to push 5’4 (162cm). To her dismay however, she hasn’t done much more in terms of growth spurts recently.

Everyday Outfit(s): She has a tendency to wear green, a habit that all of the Kimura clan members have. Her clothing style is very practical/athletic, as Mayumi likes to be on the move a lot even when she isn’t training or on a mission. It’s rare to find Mayumi dressing very feminine as she dislikes wearing pink, bows, lace and frills.

Mission Outfit(s): Mayumi is often in a green tunic with the Kimura clan leaf logo on it, with a brown belt, short darker green leggings/pants with matching gloves. Even when she becomes a Chunin, she rarely wears the Konoha vest – she won’t wear the vest until the Fourth Great Shinobi War. She also wears the Konoha leaf ninja headband across her forehead and the classic ninja shoes. Mayumi has pondered switching to boots similar to Tsubasa’s though.

Accessories: Mayumi has earrings that look like little trees – a classic everyday accessory for a member of the Kimura clan. Otherwise her staple accessory is a black and white beaded necklace, something that all members of Team Tori wear.

Makeup: You will hardly ever find Mayumi in make-up, ever. Not unless her mother’s done it for her for a special function or event – otherwise she dislikes wearing it.

Hairstyle(s): Mayumi used to wear her hair in a bun like her mother, but after the influence of Kohaku, she began to wear her hair in pigtails. When she was younger, these used to be higher pigtails but when she got older and her hair grew longer, she began to wear her hair lower. She’ll sometimes wear her hair in a ponytail, but it’s rare to see her with her hair down unless you catch her asleep.
